Current Awareness

A number of databases and collections of electronic journals provide an automated alert service, as do many book publishers. These are automated current awareness services that will, depending on the type of profile or strategy, provide tables of contents of your chosen journals or a list of individual article citations. These will be emailed directly to you. Alert services are potentially very useful in helping you keep abreast of current developments and publications in your research area.

  • JournalTOCs is a tool which you can use to set up email alerts for new issues of specific journals. This site currently contains Tables of Contents for just over 36,000 titles, including nearly 18,000 Open Access publications.

See the relevant  Subject guide for a list of databases in your subject area. Google Scholar also offers alerting options for new citations.
