Request It! Going beyond London Met Library collections

one-stop shop for requesting publications we don’t have in our Library collections, be it a journal article, book chapter, or full book.

First check Library Search to make sure what you want is not already available from the library.  If it isn't, click the relevant link below to request it!

We'll do our best to get your requested articles, chapters or books free of charge, but sometimes we can't fulfil requests due to availability, cost or copyright restrictions. When this is the case, we'll let you know of alternative options

Reading List items

If you need support with reading material or are struggling to locate or access resources on your reading list, get in touch with your Academic Liasion Librarian using alls@londonmet.ac.uk, giving as much detail as you can so we can investigate on your behalf.

Some documents in files and foldersIf you need a journal article for your own research, first check Library Search to ensure that access is not already available from our own collections.  If it isn't, you can make a request.

Key information:
  • The time required to fulfil your request will depend on which journal the article is in, how easy it is to source, and demand on the service.
  • Processing times can take longer if full details are not supplied including ISSN
  • Only one article from a journal issue can be requested due to copyright restrictions
  • For electronic delivery you will be sent an email with a link or attachment to your document. This link remains active for 30 days from the date of the original email from the supplying library
  • Your access may be less than 30 days due to service processing time
  • Requests should be for research and private study only and full text files must not be shared online or with anyone else

Key information:
  • The time required to fulfil your request will depend on the format of the book, how easy it is to source, and demand on the service. We regret we are unable to guarantee delivery of requests by a specific date
  • We are unable to borrow e-books from external libraries but in some cases we may purchase an e-book for the London Met collection in response to your request
  • Some books sourced from external libraries may only be available for use in the library buildings
  • You may be able to renew book loans from external libraries on request but this is not guaranteed
  • Please make sure you're around to collect the item as soon as it arrives
  • Requests can take longer to process if full details are not supplied including ISBN

 

If you need a book chapter for your own research, first check Library Search  to ensure the book is not already available from the library.  If it isn't, you can make a request.

Request a chapter

 

Key information:
  • The time required to fulfil your request will depend on the book that the chapter is in, how easy it is to source, and demand on the service. 
  • Requests can take longer to process if full details are not supplied including ISBN.
  • Only one chapter from a book can be requested. If you require more than this, please request the whole book using the separate 'Book' form
  • For electronic delivery you will be forwarded an email with a link to your document. This link remains active for 30 days from the date of the original email from the British Library
  • Your access may be less than 30 days due to service processing time
  • Requests should be for research and private study only. Full text files should not be shared online or with anyone else

  • The majority of recent London Met theses are available digitally via Library Search (search by author surname and title)
  • Older London Met theses may only be available in print (hard copy) format in the Holloway Road Library. Check availability on Library Search first and then ask at the Library Information Desk for access. These print theses can only used in the Library building.

External UK and European theses:

The EThOS service previously provided access to UK university theses. This service is currently offline due to ongoing disruption to British Library services.

Alternatively it may be possible to locate a thesis by visiting the awarding university's repository site and searching there. Please contact the Library if you require assistance.
