Finding information

Stay organised

Keeping track of your sources can be difficult, especially if you're working on a big project or an assignment that relies on a lot of references. Try these recommended tools to keep on top of your notes and all the research material you have found.

You can also check out our guide on notemaking.

Saving to Library Search

You can also save your searches and any items you find within Library Search itself.  A cartoon of a student bookmarking things on an oversized mobile phone screen

Referencing software

Reference management software helps you create, organise and retrieve your references. You can group and tag sources, keep notes, and store PDFs online for easy access. You can even automatically cite your references as you write up your work.  You can choose whichever referencing software you feel most comfortable using but if you're looking for recommendations we would say Zotero is a good one to use.  Zotero is free and has lots of helpful support and guidance.

Why we love it ♥

  • Search across all your references.

  • Make and save your own notes about the sources you add.

  • Print or save a list of references.

  • Insert citations into your document and automatically produce a reference list / bibliography in whatever style you require.
