Between June and September 2025, we’ll be making some changes in the Libraries on both campuses to get ready for the move of the AAD, Film, and Music courses. This means we’ll be reorganising books, journals, DVDs, and other materials plus dismantling some shelves. With over 100,000 items being moved, things might be a little out of place or temporarily unavailable.
We’re sorry for any disruption this causes. We’ll do our best to keep things running smoothly, make sure you can still access what you need, and keep you updated along the way.
If you can’t find something or need help, please just ask a member of staff—we’re here to help!
The Aldgate Library in Calcutta House will stay open for study until the new library opens in the Wash House in mid September 2025, but we’ll be moving a lot of the books during this time. Some areas will be closed off whilst collections are moved.
The print collections will start moving there in the second week of July, and we’ll be getting the space ready for you. We will run a fetching service for any books moved to the new library in the Wash Houses before we can open the space to students and staff. Please ask library staff for help in reserving items

The Materials and Products Collections room and the Photography room are now closed as we prepare to move to the Wash Houses
If you're studying Architecture or Design, your books, journals, and materials & product collections will be moving to the new Aldgate Library (Wash Houses). Art journals will move to the new Aldgate Library (Wash Houses) until Spring 2026. We’re aiming to open the new Aldgate Library in the Wash Houses building in mid September. This new space will also have 25 study spaces, the Library Help desk and TechSmart.
There will be some changes happening on the first floor as we move shelves and books to get ready for the arrival of the Aldgate collection.
This means some books might be in different places than usual; thanks for your patience while we get everything sorted. If you can't find something, please ask a member of library staff.
Books for Art, Film, and Music courses will be moving into the Holloway Learning Centre.
Journals for Art will remain in the new Wash Houses Library until teaching moves to Holloway in Spring 2026
There will also be additional space to study on the first floor of Holloway Library
24 journal titles will be available at the Shoreditch campus for reference use on the ground floor just past reception.
A LapSafe locker for borrowing laptops will be located near the journals. There will also be a printer.
You'll also find a Library self-service machine there to allow you to return books borrowed from Holloway or Aldgate Libraries.
