London Metropolitan University Special Collections

Our own Special Collections are rare and unique collections of materials that support the University’s teaching and research. Collections relating to art and design subjects include the Frederick Parker Collection (over 200 chairs dating from 1660 to the present day, along with related historical documents and artifacts); the Atkins/Atcraft Archive (furniture trade catalogues, ledgers and other documents); the University Archives; a collection of Artists' Books; and a number of oversized books, many of which relate to art and design topics.

London Met students can visit the Reading Room on the second floor of the Wash Houses during opening hours without an appointment, but if you want to look at something in particular, it's best to get in touch in advance in case it is something which requires retrieval.

The Special Collections team have created some online resource lists to highlight material in the collections around different topics and themes. More lists will be added over time so do keep checking back to see what's new.
