London Metropolitan University Special Collections

Our own Special Collections are located in the Wash Houses at the Aldgate campus. The full range of collections and archives can be found on the webpages; they include the University Archive, the Atkins/Atcraft Archive (trade catalogues, ledgers and many other documents from these furniture manufacturers), and the Frederick Parker Collection (over 200 chairs, ranging in date from 1660 to the present day, and a substantial archive which consists of related historical documents and artefacts). Additionally, a collection of Artists' Books and a number of oversized books, many of which relate to art and design topics, can be found in the Reading Room.

London Met students can visit the Reading Room on the second floor of the Wash Houses during opening hours without an appointment, but if you want to look at something in particular, it's best to get in touch in advance in case it is something which requires retrieval.

The Special Collections team have created some online resource lists to highlight material in the collections around different topics and themes. More lists will be added over time so do keep checking back to see what's new.
